Cleaning or removing a stain from your carpet / rug can be quite difficult and you may not have the time in between the moment you accidentally stained the carpet / rug to the time that you will be having guests over to book a professional carpet cleaner to come over.
You could always try to run out and rent a carpet cleaning machine but after the rental fee, special shampoo to use in the machine, etc. it can get quite pricey.
Here are a few easy to make, home made carpet cleaning solutions that you can quickly make and use to save the day or at least save your carpet.
Detergent Based Solution
Mix a solution of clear liquid dish soap with warm water, the exact measurement is a ¼ teaspoon of detergent to 1 cup of water.
After you mix this simple solution, use a rag to scrub it into your carpet to remove those stains.
After the carpet dries off, use your vacuum and clean up any left over residue that may have remained.
Window Cleaning Solution
* Before using this solution we recommend adding a tiny bit in a spot that will not be noticed such as that corner of the rug or carpet that remains hidden under the couch, if the color of the carpet begins to fade or remove, do NOT use this solution.
Grab your bottle of window cleaning solution (windex or any other) and spray a bit on the stained area.
Let it soak for about 5 minutes then wipe the area using a cold, wet cloth or sturdy paper towel.
Vinegar and Baking Soda Solution
Mix equal amounts of vinegar and baking soda until it becomes a thick paste.
Dilute the paste using warm water until it becomes a thin liquid solution and scrub it into the stained area using an old toothbrush.
Club Soda Solution
Pour some club soda directly onto the stained area and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
Scrub with an old toothbrush.
