They can make a space pop with colour, or help to highlight other pieces of furniture. At Zen Carpet Cleaning, we love our rugs and carpets. In fact, it’d be hard to picture a space without them!

If you’re looking to add a new rug or carpet to your home, this is the guide for you. Zen Carpet Cleaning has assembled a list of rug and carpet trends, so you can keep your home as stylish and up-to-date as possible.

Check it out.

 Environmentally friendly carpets and rugs.

Being environmentally friendly has now become more of a must than a trend. Rug and carpet manufacturers have started picking up on that. It’s always good to be conscious of our ecological footprint, so why not start with making changes and improvements in our own home?

Materials such as wool, sisal, and recyclable nylon are all great choices when looking for ‘green’ rugs and carpets.

Muted colours.

While bold and vibrant coloured rugs and carpets may seem like a fun and unique choice, it’s better to have more muted tones. It would be awfully hard to match furniture and home decor to a bright orange rug. A white or grey rug, on the other hand, can pretty much go with anything.

Trending rug and carpet colours are mainly whites, greys, taupe, and a faded navy blue or a faded forest green. When considering what colour rug to get, keep two words in mind: neutral tones.

Carpet as artwork.

On the other side of the spectrum is something that will have your guests talking. If your furniture is on the more modern and simplistic side, having a rug or carpet that looks almost like a painting is a great idea. Not only will it add some colour and vibrancy to any room, but it also acts as a conversation piece.

For art aficionados and collectors, it gives you a chance to explore a whole new avenue of creativity and design, and to potentially expand your collection.

The cut and loop design.

Popular in the 70s and 80s, the cut and loop design, also known as ‘texture loop,’ has made a comeback. Although it can be more difficult to maintain, this simple design gives any room a more luxurious feel.

Some cut and loop rugs and carpets are textured, meaning certain parts of it are slightly raised. It is possible, however, to find a cut and loop design that is leveled. Whichever you choose is purely personal preference, as both styles are trending.

If you’re not a fan of the cut and loop, geometric patterned rugs and carpets are also in style!

The softer the better.

We predict that the soft-rug-and-carpet-trend is here to stay. After all, who would want to switch back to a rougher feeling rug or carpet after experiencing a super soft one?!

If you want to feel like you’re walking on a cloud, we suggest looking in to getting a soft rug or carpet. They’re not too hard to find, and even if they were, they’re worth the hunt…

Although trends come and go, what stays consistent with rugs and carpets is the maintenance they need and deserve. It’s important to keep your floors clean, as they can become a home for bugs and pests such as dust mites. They also are vulnerable to absorbing unwanted odours.

Pick whichever trend you will, but make sure you take care of your rugs and carpets so that they can be part of your home for years to come. And who better to take care of your rugs and carpets then Zen Carpet Cleaning?!
